I am happy to help every customer with low and high value instruments with repairs, restorations and setups of violins, violas, cellos, double basses, as well as bow repairs and bow rehairing and smaller repairs of guitars.

I very much welcome double basses as well, I have been maintaining the double basses for the Music Academy in Budapest.

Sometimes I managed to save instruments that seemed hopeless. Restoration may be needed for neglected or badly repaired instruments. In these cases, I can only say a reference price. I lead a work log about the work itself, and the end price is decided based on the work time. You can check the prices of the most common repairs on the bottom of this page.

Nowadays there is a high demand for cheap, but relatively good sounding instruments. They make a lot of new instruments in China, but at the beginning of the 20th century there were a lot of similar instruments made in manufactories in the Czech Republic and Hungary, many of which had either a commercial or some other label.

By now, the materials in these instruments have aged enough, and are considered relatively good. If there is an instrument like this on sale, I like buying and renovating them. This means I do all the necessary repairs, adjust the sizes, and shape the bass bar the same way I would do with my own instruments. As a result we get an almost 100 years old, professionally renovated manufactory instrument. Their price ranges between 100-300 000HUF. The instruments are custom, so if someone buys an instrument in my workshop, I would set up the instrument to match the sound and playing comfort the customer wants. This means adjusting the thickness and width of the neck, the string height and the exact setting of the soundpost for the customer’s demands.
